Blue Devil Wrestlers Fall In Road Dual, Prep For Home Invite

WAYNE – The Wayne High wrestlers sent their team to Creighton for a road dual with the Bulldogs.

Thursday night dual action favored Creighton winning 37-21 with seven matches being contested.

Wayne High wins were posted by Juan Vergara (138) over Cody Hanvey by decision (18-12) as Mike Leatherdale (285) won by fall in :52 seconds over Brody Vrooman. Reece Jaqua (126) and Cameron Muhs (132) also posted wins by forfeit.

Double forfeits for both teams came at 106/113/220. Creighton won matches 120/195 by forfeit.

145: RJ Wilmes (Creighton) won by fall (1:57) over Cooper Zara

152: Bode Wortman (Creighton) won by major decision (10-1) over Edwin Espino

160: JD Kuhlman (Creighton) won by decision (4-2) over Reid Korth

170: Bryce Zimmerer (Creighton) won by fall (1:03) over Harley Wheeler

182: Brandon Waldow (Creighton) won by fall (:58) over Dakota Spann

 

The Wayne High wrestlers will next host the Blue Devil Invite on Saturday, December 15 starting at 9 a.m. Teams joining Wayne will be Archbishop Bergan, Bancroft-Rosalie, Cedar Bluffs, Clarkson-Leigh, Crofton-Bloomfield, Elkhorn, Omaha Bryan, Schuyler, Stanton, Winside and Wisner-Pilger.

Pender Quad:

Winside recorded wins over Stanton (42-31), Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (54-18) and Pender (50-3) to win the Pender Quad. Stanton placed with second with wins over Pender (45-24) and LCC (42-24), LCC finished third by defeating Pender (31-30, Criteria E on tie breaker) as the Pendragons went 0-3 on the day.

Top Winside wrestlers were Jacoby Mann (106) going 2-0 with a win by forfeit, while Tyler Carlson (132) went 2-1 and Dominic Reed (152) went 1-1 in contested matches while also winning by forfeit. Cayden Ellis (113), Koby Ellis (120), Matthew Frederick (126) and Art Escalante (138) posted one match win and two others by forfeit.; Alex Carlson (145) went 1-2, Casey North (170) went 0-1 with two wins by forfeit and Michael Jensen won all three matches by forfeit (195/220).

LCC’s top performer was Trace Naeve (145) going 3-0. Branden Meyer (132) went 1-2, Nolan Ohlrich (152) went 0-2 with a win by forfeit, Levi Jackson (160/170) went 0-1 with two wins by forfeit, Kaden Swanson (285) won three matches by forfeit and Fischer Carson (220) won two matches by forfeit.

The top Pender wrestler was Zachery Randall (152/145) who went 2-1. Chase Hofmeister (113), Kaiden Mrsny (120) went 0-1 with two wins by forfeit as Layne Sturek (106), Brian Robertson (132), Alexander Johnson (138) and Jacob Bruns (145/152) went 0-2 with a win by forfeit.

O’Neill Quad:

Battle Creek defeated O’Neill (58-23) and won 55-24 over Elkhorn Valley as Pierce won against O’Neill (42-31) and won 60-18 over Elkhorn Valley.
