Blue Devil Volleyball Wins Weekend Tourney, Bracket Scores Posted

WISNER – The Wayne High volleyball team closed out a busy week of matches by winning a weekend tournament and taking down the top two seeds.

From Wisner-Pilger High School, the Gators hosted the Wisner-Pilger September Classic Saturday.

WHS earned the #3 seed and opened the day by sweeping #6 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (25-13, 25-22). The Blue Devils then won in three sets over #2 Chambers/Wheeler Central (21-25, 25-21, 25-21) and swept the top seed Humphrey St. Francis (25-23, 25-22). Wayne High has now won five straight and sit 13-7 on the season.

In the victory over LCC, Laurel Pick posted 10 kills followed by Rubie Klausen with nine kills. Sydney Redden recorded 11 digs while Reagan Backer added nine digs. Kiara Krusemark finished with 17 set assists.

From the win against CWC, Pick recorded 11 kills and 20 digs while Klausen came away with 10 kills and 17 digs. Redden also finished with double figure digs at 15 as Krusemark tallied 28 set assists.

During the championship sweep over St. Francis, Pick led the team in kills with 18. Dig leaders were Redden with 16, Backer tacked on 14 digs and Klausen finished with 11 digs. Krusemark posted a team-high 27 set assists.

#1 Humphrey St. Francis swept #8 Maison, 25-5, 25-5

#2 Chambers/Wheeler Central swept #7 Homer, 25-9, 25-9

#4 Wisner-Pilger won in three sets over #5 Pierce, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21

Second round:

St. Francis swept Wisner-Pilger, 25-16, 25-17

LCC swept Homer, 25-15, 25-23

Pierce swept Madison, 25-3, 25-5

Final round:

Third place match: CWC won in three sets over Wisner-Pilger, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22

Fifth place match: LCC swept Pierce, 25-17, 25-23

Seventh place match: Homer swept Madison, 25-21, 25-10

 

The Wayne High volleyball team will next compete in the Arlington Triangular on Tuesday, September 29 along with West Point-Beemer.
