WEST POINT – After finishing runner-up in the North Bend Invite over the weekend, the Wayne High volleyball team found themselves in another five-set match.
From West Point, WHS visited Class C2 Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday evening.
The host Bluejays won the back-and-forth five-set match (25-16, 9-25, 25-23, 16-25, 17-15) to improve to 9-1 while the Blue Devils fell to 5-6. WHS is also 1-2 in five-set matches.
Last Tuesday, Wayne High won a home five-set match over Columbus Scotus and also lost their season opener at Ponca in five sets.
Rubie Klausen recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs while Kate Hill added six kills and eight digs. Kiara Krusemark led the team in set assists with 29 to go along with five digs and three kills as Reagan Backer tallied 15 digs. Sydney Redden tied for a team-high in digs with 18 and had one kill. Mady Sievers (three digs) and Leah Perry (solo block) both finished with four kills, Courtney Brink had three kills and one dig as Amelia Legler had one kill. Faith Powicki also had five digs.
Three service aces came from Redden, Krusemark and Backer each with one.
Wayne High will next visit Lutheran High Northeast on Thursday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. Pregame coverage on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com is set for 7:10 p.m. in Norfolk.
