WAYNE – After splitting a pair of jamboree matches last Thursday on the road, the Wayne High volleyball team will get their first taste of the regular season with a weeknight home outing.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, Class C1 Wayne will welcome in Class C2 Ponca Thursday night. A freshman/sophomore game will open the night at 5 p.m., followed by a Junior Varsity match at 6:15 p.m. and varsity competition around 7:45 p.m.
The Blue Devils finished the regular season at 15-13 last season and lost a five-set match to Battle Creek in the C1-7 Subdistrict Tournament.
Ponca went 18-12 a year ago also losing the first round of the C2-5 subdistricts in five sets to Wakefield.
In 2021, Ponca won a five set match over Wayne in Ponca.
Ponca will also host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge next Tuesday, August 30 while the Blue Devils will compete in the NEN Volleyball Classic hosted by Wisner-Pilger and Pender on Thursday, September 1 and Saturday, September 3.
