Blue Devil Volleyball Finishes Runner-Up In Conference Tourney Action

NORFOLK – Thursday evenings conference final featured the top two seeds in the Mid State Conference Volleyball Tournament.

From Norfolk Catholic High School, #1 Norfolk Catholic took on #2 Wayne High.

After both teams split the opening two sets, the Knights won the final two to win the match 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-13, 25-20). Norfolk Catholic is now 21-6 on the season while the loss for WHS snapped their 14-match winning streak falling to 22-7. The Blue Devils have gone 34-3 in the past now 15 outings.

Lauren Pick went off for a 33-kill performance to go along with 13 digs while Sydney Redden paced WHS in digs with 28. Emily Longe added seven kills and three digs; Rubie Klausen had six kills and 13 digs as other single kills came from Katy Jones and Mady Sievers (four digs). Reagan Backer also had 14 digs as Kiara Krusemark finished with 43 set assists, five digs and three kills. Block-assists came from Klausen, Pick, Kate Hill (one dig) and Sievers.

Norfolk Catholic had three different players combine for 45 kills and finished with a .262 hitting percentage compared to Wayne’s .175.

Wayne High will next host the C1-6 Subdistrict on Monday and Tuesday, October 26-27. #4 Homer will open Monday at 4:30 p.m. against #5 Winnebago with the winner to face #1 Wayne at 7:30 p.m. The other half of the bracket will feature #2 Battle Creek vs. #3 Pierce at 6 p.m.

 

Fifth-place match: #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic swept #8 Crofton (25-21, 25-21, 25-21)

Third-place match: #3 GACC swept #5 Battle Creek (25-11, 25-16, 25-18)
