Blue Devil Volleyball Drops First Round State Match With Wahoo

LINCOLN – With cold temperatures giving fans even more of a reason to pack the gym, Class C1 high school volleyball teams took part in state tournament action Thursday afternoon into the evening.

From Lincoln North Star high school, #8 Wayne High battled with the #1 Wahoo during the night cap.

Scores of the match favored Wahoo in straight sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-16). The Warriors improve to 33-2 as WHS ended their season at 25-10.

Wahoo double-doubles came from Mya Larson with 14 kills and 13 digs as Elly Larson finished with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kyla Swanson tacked on 13 kills as Elle Glock recorded 43 set assists. Kendal Brigham also came away with 13 digs.

Leaders for Wayne saw Lauren Pick finish with six kills and six digs as Ashton Boyer followed with five kills and five digs. Kiara Krusemark picked up eight set assists while Allyson Avery added seven assists. Hailey Backer also finished with five digs.

Earlier in the day #3 St. Paul defeated #6 Syracuse in five sets (24-26, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 15-9); #2 Lincoln Lutheran swept #7 Columbus Scotus (25-21, 25-11, 25-17) as #4 Bishop Neumann won in four sets over #5 Grand Island Central Catholic (14-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20).

Session two games for Class C1 will find #3 St. Paul vs. #2 Lincoln Lutheran at 1 p.m. followed by #4 Bishop Neumann vs. #1 Wahoo at 3 p.m. with both matches held on the south court of the Pinnacle Bank Arena Friday.


Area results in Class C2: #2 Stanton swept #7 Battle Creek (25-22, 25-23, 25-17) as #5 Hartington Cedar Catholic won in five sets over #4 Thayer Central (25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 15-9).

Maddie Wieseler went off for a triple-double with 12 kills, 34 set assists and 14 digs. She was followed by double-doubles from Jada Cattau with 22 kills and 18 digs as Abby Hochstein added 11 kills and 19 digs. Aiden Wortman picked up 18 set assists, Megan Heimes tallied 21 digs and Brianna Miller picked up 10 digs.

Three blocks came from Tori Arens, Kenlee Goeden, Miller and Wieseler. Miller and Wortman led HCC with three service aces each while Wiesler tacked on two aces and one ace from Hochstein and Cattau.

Round two schedule Friday from PBA North Court: #2 Stanton vs. #3 Blue Hill at 1 p.m. followed by #5 Hartington Cedar Catholic vs. #1 Superior at 3 p.m.


Area score in Class D2: #4 Wynot won in four sets over #5 Exeter-Milligan (25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 25-22).

Round two schedule Friday from PBA North Court: #4 Wynot vs. #3 Mullen at 11 a.m.
