Blue Devil Volleyball Drops First Match Of Season

NORFOLK – Leading into their third weekend tourney, the Wayne High volleyball team took to the road Thursday night.

WHS visited Lutheran High Northeast, a Class C2 opponent in Norfolk.

The Eagles went onto sweep Wayne High 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 to now sit 10-5 while the Blue Devils fell to 10-1 dropping just their third, fourth and fifth sets of the season.

WHS was led by Lauren Pick with 11 kills and seven digs while Mikaela McManigal tallied six kills. Emily Armstrong posted five kills and 11 digs as Frankie Klausen closed out the kill department with four to go along with seven digs. Hailey Backer recorded a team-high 12 digs, Sydney Redden had seven digs and Kiara Krusemark tacked on 17 set assists.

The Wayne High volleyball team will next compete in a one-day Seward Tournament on Saturday, September 21. WHS will compete in pool A against Seward, Lincoln Lutheran and South Sioux City while pool B teams will feature Wahoo, Broken Bow, Omaha Concordia and Omaha Mercy. Games will start at 9 a.m. with the final matches starting at 4:45 p.m.
