Blue Devil Volleyball Advances To Fifth Place Conference Tourney Match

NORFOLK/PIERCE – Following a first round conference tournament loss on Monday, the Wayne High volleyball team was back in action looking to advance in the loser’s bracket.

From Norfolk Catholic High School, #4 WHS took on #9 Hartington Cedar Catholic Tuesday evening.

Wayne High won in straight sets over the Trojans (25-16, 25-21, 25-11) to improve to 15-11 on the season and advance to the fifth-place match while HCC fell to 7-21.

The Blue Devils also swept Cedar Catholic (2-0) in a home triangular on September 23 earlier this season.

Kate Hill was the team leader in kills with 12 while adding six digs for Wayne; followed by Rubie Klausen with eight kills and six digs as Kiara Krusemark recorded a double-double with 16 set assists and a team-high 15 digs to go along with four kills. Sydney Redden finished with 12 digs; Reagan Backer had four digs; Mady Sievers added one kill and two digs; Faith Powicki and Anna Kaup both tacked on two digs as Courtney Brink tallied a kill and a dig.

Wayne High posted eight service aces led by Hill, Krusemark and Redden all with two as Backer and Klausen both had one ace. Amelia Legler and Klausen both totaled two blocks (one solo each).

 

#6 Norfolk Catholic swept #7 Boone Central (25-14, 25-14, 25-13) and will next face Wayne High at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, 21 in the fifth-place match.

Mid State Volleyball Day Two Scores 10-19-21

Scores from Pierce in the winner’s bracket saw #1 Battle Creek won in four sets over #5 Crofton (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19) as #3 Pierce swept #2 Guardian Angels Central Catholic (25-14, 25-23, 25-23).

The third-place consolation match will feature GACC vs. Crofton at 6 p.m. also on Thursday from Pierce followed by the Mid State Conference Volleyball championship match between Battle Creek and Pierce at 7:30 p.m.

#9 Hartington Cedar Catholic and #7 Boone Central will join #8 O’Neill on Thursday for a triangular at the site determined by the highest seed.
