Blue Devil Track & Field Results From Schuyler Invite; Girls Finish Third, Boys Place Fourth

SCHUYLER – Members of the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team spent the day in Schuyler for a weekday invitational.

The Fred Arnold Invite attracted seven overall teams on Thursday.

The Wayne High girls finished third with 81 points while the Blue Devil boys placed fourth with 50 points.

Head WHS track and field coach Dale Hochstein said, “decent weather for this spring (event) combined with strong competition enabled the team to again produce 24 season best performances and many others right at theirs.  We are now headed into the final stretch of the season with the Norfolk Classic being run next Thursday followed by the Mid States Conference Meet Saturday.”

Blair won the girls division with 143 points; Aquinas Catholic followed in second (97), Wayne High took third (81), Columbus Scotus finished fourth (76) and Columbus Lakeview rounded out the top five teams with 75 points.

The Wayne High girls were led by Brooklyn Kruse winning the discus (111’ 10”) and shot put (37’ 3 ½”) while Jala Krusemark won the 3200-meter run (12:23.54) and placed runner-up in the 1600-meter run (5:47.86),

Kyla Krusemark came in third in the 3200-meter run (12:33.26) and Virginia Kniesche took third in the pole vault (8’).

The top WHS girls relay came in the 4X800 as the team of Faith Powicki, Kierah Haase, Laura Hasemann and Kyla Krusemark won the event in a time of 10:15.36.

Wahoo won the boys division with 172 points; Columbus Lakeview followed in second (136), Blair took third (84), Wayne High finished fourth (50) as the host Schuyler and Aquinas Catholic rounded out the top five teams tied with 35 points.

The Wayne High boys were led by Jesus Zavala III with a runner-up finish in the 3200-meter run (10:40.36) as he also finished third in the 1600-meter run (4:52.1).

Sedjro Agoumba finished third in both the 200-meter dash (22.90) and the 400-meter dash (52.5) while Ethan Wibben took third in the 3200-meter run (11:14.39).

Eli Barner in the pole vault (11’) and Jack Bruckner in high jump (5’ 8”) both placed fourth to lead the Wayne boys in the field department.

The top WHS relay came in the 4×800 from the team of Ethan Wibben, Colson Nelsen, Mason Ley and Parker Kesting with a third place finish in a time of 9:32.69.

The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will be off until Tuesday, April 26 during the Pierce Invite.
