Blue Devil Track & Field Invite Results

WAYNE – For the second time in the past seven days, the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team welcomed in competitors during a home invitational.

From Kern Track in Wayne, six teams joined the Blue Devils during the Wayne High Invite Tuesday.

The Wayne girls placed fourth with 75 points while the Blue Devil boys finished fifth with 61 points.

Wisner-Pilger won the girls division with 136 points, followed by Stanton in second with 97 points, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge took third (79), WHS placed fourth (75) and Lutheran High Northeast rounded out the top five teams with 63 points. Archbishop Bergan (sixth – 54) and Winside (seventh – 19) closed out team scoring.

The Wayne High girls were led by Courtney Brink finishing runner-up in the shot put (29’ 9 ½”) while taking third in the discus (85’ 6”).

Frantzdie Barner placed third in the 100-meter dash (13.92), fourth in the 200-meter dash (29.00) and sixth in the long jump (13’ 5 ½”). Laura Haseman finished third in the 1600-meter run (6:15); Katy Jones took third in the high jump (4’ 6”) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:13) as Virginia Kniesche tied for third in the pole vault (6’);

Top relays were the 4×800-meter relay team (Klausen, Maas, Jones and Hasemann) finishing runner-up (11:52); 4×100 (Kniesche, D. Kruse, Barner and Hill) took third (58.31) and 4×400 (Kniesche, Klausen, Hill and Jones) took third (4:55).

Reagan Maas came in fourth during the 3200-meter run (14:47); Kiera Brader finished fifth in the pole vault (6’) and Delaney Kruse placed fifth in the discus (82’ 4”).

Sierra Mutchler took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.95), Kate Hill finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (58.91) and Katelyn Vanhorn placed sixth in the triple jump (27’ 5”).

Archbishop Bergan won the boys division with 129 points, followed by LCC in second with 117 points, Stanton took third (100), Wisner-Pilger placed fourth (72) and the host Wayne rounded out the top five teams with 61 points. Winside (sixth – 24) and Lutheran High Northeast (seventh – 16) closed out team scoring.

WHS boys leaders were Carter Junck who won the high jump (5’ 4”) and Eli Barner won the pole vault (10’ 6”).

Jesus Zavala placed runner-up in both the 1600-meter run (5:05) and 3200-meter run (10:54).

Top relays were the 4×800-meter relay team (Aschoff, Kesting, Wibben and Zavala) finishing runner-up (9:40); 4×100-meter team (Nelson, Judd, Barner and Alcantara) took third (49.30) and 4×400 (Nelson, Fertig, Junck and Muhs) took fifth (4:14).

Mason Ley took fifth in the pole vault (8’); Lance Muhs finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:34), Yair Alcantara placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.57) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (48.29) as Eli Barner was sixth in the triple jump (34’ 9”).

 

The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next send 11 athletes to compete at the Elkhorn Invitational on Thursday, April 15 before the whole team returns to action next Thursday at the Schuyler Invite.
