Blue Devil Softball Turns 16 Hits Into 13 Runs During Home Victory

WAYNE – After spending a week off from competition, the Wayne High softball team went back to work during a busy early September schedule which started Tuesday.

From the Wayne Softball Complex, WHS hosted Columbus Lakeview.

The Blue Devils scored early and often thanks to a run in the first, three in the second and both teams scored two runs in the third which saw WHS leading 6-2. Following a scoreless fourth, Wayne High outscored the Viqueens 5-2 in the fifth and tacked on two more runs in the sixth to win 13-4. Wayne High is now 5-3 on the season while Columbus Lakeview fell to 4-3.

Brooklyn Kruse recorded a homerun, singled and scored twice; Mikaela McManigal finished with a single, double, triple, two RBI and three runs scored as Kierah Haase tripled, drove in two runs and scored. Taytum Sweetland also singled twice, doubled and drove in two runs.

Taytem Ellis singled twice, drove in two runs and scored; Virginia Kniesche singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Hope O’Reilly singled and scored twice; Liberty Titiml singled, drove in a run and scored twice as Kendall Dorey singled and drove in a run.

Dorey (100 pitches) secured the complete game victory in six innings allowing four runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out 13 batters and walking two.

Mercy Tourney 9-11-21

Wayne High will next visit Class C Tekamah-Herman on Thursday, September 9 before taking part in the Omaha Mercy Softball Invitational on Saturday, September 11.
