HASTINGS – For the first time in four years, the Wayne High softball team has secured a #1 seed in the postseason state tournament.
From the Smith Softball Complex, WHS (31-0) leads the eight best teams in Class C during the 2018 State Softball Championships in Hastings. State action will take place Wednesday, October 10 – Friday, October 12.
Class A games will open Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by Class B at 11:30 a.m. and Class C playing their first round at 2 p.m.
#1 Wayne (District 5 Champions) will take on the District 6 champion of #8 Cozad (18-15) at 2 p.m. on field one. Wednesday’s pregame show will start around 1:45 p.m. or following the completion of Class B first round games. The winner will play again Wednesday at 7 p.m. while the loser will play at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. opposite of the Bishop Neumann/Auburn game.
Other first round games include #4 (23-8) Bishop Neumann (District 3 runner-up) vs. #5 (25-3) Auburn (District 1 champion) on field four; #3 (24-7) GACC (District 2 champion) vs. #6 (25-9) Centennial (District 4 champion) on field three and #2 (23-7) Arlington (District 2 runner-up) vs. #7 (18-12) Milford (District 3 champion) on field two.

Class A games at 9 a.m.: #1 Papillion-La Vista (31-0) vs. #8 Lincoln North Star (24-12) on field one; #4 Millard West (24-6) vs. #5 Lincoln Southwest (33-4) on field four; #3 Millard South (23-6) vs. #6 Omaha Marian (23-8) on field three and #2 Gretna (21-6) vs. #7 Omaha Burke (21-10) on field two.
Class B games at 11:30 a.m.: #1 Elkhorn (26-6) vs. #8 North Platte (22-14) on field one; #4 Crete (25-9) vs. #5 Hastings (26-12) on field four; #3 Beatrice (26-7) vs. #6 Blair (16-12) on field three and #2 Omaha Skutt Catholic (26-7) vs. #7 Omaha Gross Catholic (17-10) on field two.
