Blue Devil Softball Selected To Host B-6 Subdistrict Tournament, Thursday Night Softball Cancelled

WAYNE – With the Mid State Conference softball tournament to close out the regular season for Wayne High this weekend, WHS will also be hosting the first round of postseason action.

The Blue Devils are 15-6 on the season and had their Thursday night parent’s night home game vs. Class C Guardian Angels Central Catholic (17-6) canceled due to field conditions.

The Blue Devils were selected as the host of the B-6 single elimination subdistrict tournament by 0.2514 wildcard points. The four-team tournament will be played on Monday, October 4 from the Wayne Softball Complex.

WHS will open with #4 Schuyler (1-23) at noon followed by #2 Seward (17-8) vs. #3 Crete (11-13) at 2 p.m. The two winners will meet for the subdistrict championship final at 4 p.m. with the winner automatically qualifying for the district final.

B-6 Subdistrict Bracket.

The Wayne vs. Schuyler game will be carried on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and with pregame coverage set for just before noon.

The district final is slated to be played on either Friday, October 8 or Saturday, October 9 being a best-of-three series. The 10 subdistrict champions will be joined by six wildcards based on points and be re-seeded 1-16 with the winner advancing to the state tournament.


B-5 (Wahoo, Hackberry Softball Complex Field #2): #1 Wahoo vs. #4 NEN (Wisner-Pilger/Pender/BRLD) at 11 a.m. and #2 Beatrice vs. #3 Norris at 1 p.m.

C-3 (Wahoo, Hackberry Softball Complex Field #1): #1 Bishop Neumann vs. #4 West Point-Beemer at 2 p.m. and #2 Freeman vs. #3 Southern/Diller-Odell at 4 p.m.

C-4 (West Point, Timmerman Field): #1 Guardian Angels Central Catholic vs. #4 Ponca at 1 p.m. and #2 Raymond Central vs. North Bend Central at 3 pm..


Wayne High will conclude their regular season on Saturday, October 2 with the Mid State Conference tourney from the Pierce Softball Complex. Games will get underway at 10 a.m. with #4 Boone Central vs. #5 Pierce on the north field and #2 Wayne vs. #3 O’Neill on the south field.

A win for Wayne would put them in the championship game at 1:30 p.m. on the north field against the winner of either #1 GACC or the Boone/Pierce winner who play at 11:45 a.m. on the north field. A loss for Wayne would send them to the consolation bracket at 11:45 a.m. on the south field against the loser of the Boone/Pierce game. The consolation game will also be played at 1:30 p.m. on the south field.
