Blue Devil Softball Outscores Triangular Opponents 27-2, Off Till September 24

ALBION – Just a pair of regular season tournaments, a home game and a road game remains on the softball schedule for Wayne prior to postseason competition.

The Blue Devils took part in their second straight night of triangular competition as they visited Boone Central in Albion while also taking on Pierce Tuesday evening.

Wayne High made quick work of the host Cardinals by winning 12-0 and Wayne High topped Pierce 15-2 to end the night. WHS has now won five straight to improve to 14-2 on the season.

In the victory over Boon Central, Wayne scored first in the third inning with a run before pouring in eight runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to win 12-0.

Kendall Dorey went yard twice recording five RBI and scoring twice while Brianna Nissen singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Wayne. Taytum Sweetland doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Brooklyn Kruse singled, drove in a run and scored; Virginia Kniesche and Mikaela McManigal both singled and scored twice; Kierah Haase accounted for a RBI and run scored; Delaney Kruse scored twice as Logan Miller scored once.

Dorey picked up the complete game victory in five innings striking out 14 batters and walking two.

During the win against Pierce, runs started early for the Blue Devils with two in the first, both teams scored a run in the second, Wayne outscored Pierce 9-1 in the third and WHS added four more runs in the fourth to win 15-2.

Brooklyn Kruse recorded a homerun, three RBI and scored twice while McManigal added a pair of singles, a double, three RBI and one run scored for Wayne. Dorey singled and drove in two runs; Kniesche singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Logan Miller singled and scored twice; Kierah Haase singled, drove in a run and scored three times; Sweetland singled and scored; Hailey Schroeder scored twice, Brianna Nissen accounted for a RBI and run scored as O’Reilly tallied a RBI.

Dorey picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing two runs off two hits while striking out nine batters and walking one.

The Wayne High softball team will be off for over a week until they close out their home schedule with NEN (Wisner-Pilger, Pender, BRLD) on Thursday, September 24.
