Blue Devil Softball Opens Season With Road Victory, Tori Kniesche Sits Down 21

BLAIR – A pair of Class B high school softball teams began their quest to return to the state tournament Thursday evening.

In Blair, the Bears entertained the Wayne High Blue Devils.

Wayne did all of their damage offensively in the first inning scoring four runs. Blair added single runs in the second and sixth but were limited offensively. The Blue Devils held on for the 4-2 victory to start the year 1-0 and win their 36th straight game. Blair fell to 0-1.

Brooklyn Kruse and Aliah Schulz both singled and drove in a run for Wayne as Tori Kniesche and Kendall Dorey each doubled. Hope O’Reilly accounted for a RBI. Runs were also scored by Kayla Fleming, Virginia Kniesche, Dorey and Kruse.

Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game win in seven innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out 21 batters as well as hitting and walking one each.

Wayne High begin their home schedule with a varsity softball tournament on Saturday, August 24. Joining WHS will be Arlington, Centura/Central Valley, Highway 91, Ord, Pierce, Ponca and Twin River.

First round games are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. of Wayne vs. Ord (Northeast field); Twin River vs. Highway 91 (Southeast); Arlington vs. Ponca (Southwest) and Centura/Central Valley vs. Pierce (Northwest). Second round games will be played at 11:30 a.m. with hte final game slated for 1:30 p.m.
