WAYNE – The Class B defending state softball champions from last year will take to the home diamond for five home outings over the next six days, which includes a three-game tournament this weekend.
From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne High will open their season with Blair at 6:30 p.m. for the varsity contest on Thursday, August 20. Last year, Wayne topped Blair 4-2 in Blair.
Wayne High finished 35-4 last year, winning the Class B state tournament while also winning the Class C bracket in 2018.
Moving into the weekend, WHS will host a tournament on Saturday, August 22. Game times will be at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wayne High will open with Ponca on the Northeast field with the winner/loser to face either Twin River or Centura/Central Valley. On the other side of the bracket, Arlington will open with Ord along with Highway 91 vs. Pierce.
Closing out the season-opening home stretch will be a Tuesday, August 25 contest against O’Neill at 6:30 p.m. for the varsity team at the Summer Sports Complex.
To start the next month on Tuesday, September 1, the Blue Devil softball team will compete in a road triangular at Highway 91 with Bishop Neumann starting at 4:30 p.m.
