WAYNE – The official Class B-6 subdistrict softball bracket was released this afternoon where Wayne High earned the #1 seed and will host the two-day tournament.
From the Wayne Softball Complex, teams joining WHS (21-3) will be #2 Seward (14-9), #3 Blue River (9-14) and #4 Schuyler (3-21) on Monday and Tuesday, October 7-8.
Wayne will open Monday against Schuyler on the northeast field while Seward will face Blue River on the southeast field both at 4 p.m. The winner’s and loser’s will then play at 5:30 p.m.

On day two, the winner of game three will face the loser of game four for an elimination game at 2 p.m. as the championship contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. An if necessary game would then be scheduled if the undefeated team would lose the first contest.
The 10 subdistrict winners in Class B will be joined by the six next highest teams based on wildcard points and re-seeded 1-16 before taking part in a best two-of-three series on Friday, October 11. The higher seed will get the option of hosting.
Last season Wayne High won the Class C state title with a 35-0 record and the year prior qualified for the Class B tournament but went 1-2. WHS (29-5) was eliminated by Seward in 2017 after topping #1 Elkhorn South in an elimination game. The Blue Devils have qualified for either the Class B or C state tournament for 12th straight years and 16 times in program history (2002-2005/2007-2018). Wayne has not received any Class B hardware but won the Class C title in 2003, 2004 and 2018 while placing runner-up in 2007, 2009 and 2013.
The B-4 bracket hosted by Norris high school was also released Monday where West Point-Beemer (11-14) earned the #4 seed. The Cadets will face #1 Norris (16-5) at noon followed by #2 Waverly (15-9) vs. #3 Ashland-Greenwood (11-10) at 1:45 p.m. Monday.
The NEN Vipers earned the #3 seed in the B-5 subdistrict hosted by Crete. #1 Crete (22-1) will face #4 North Bend Central (14-11) at noon (17-4) NEN (Wisner-Pilger/BRLD/Pender) will open with #2 Beatrice (22-4)
State softball will be in Hastings from Wednesday, October 16 – Friday, October 18.
