DODGE – The Class B defending softball champions took to the road for the first time this season during a pair of triangular contests.
From Dodge, Highway 91 welcomed in both Wayne High and Bishop Neumann Tuesday evening.
The Blue Devils outlasted Bishop Neumann, 3-2 and won 7-4 against the host Highway 91. Wayne High is now 6-1 on the season winning six straight. In the middle contest, (8-2) Bishop Newman defeated (6-7) Highway 91, 7-0.
In the contest against the Cavaliers, Wayne High took a 2-1 lead following the first inning as Bishop Neumann knotted the game up at two all in the third. After a scoreless inning, the Blue Devils regained the lead in the fifth and held on for the 3-2 victory.
Hope O’Reilly tripled, drove in a run and scored while Kendall Dorey singled twice for Wayne. Taytum Sweetland and Kierah Haase both singled as Brooklyn Kruse and Virginia Kniesche each crossed the plate once.
Dorey picked up the complete game victory in six innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out 11 batters and walking two.

During final game, Highway 91 took the early lead with a run in the second before Wayne High poured in five runs during the third. Hwy 91 outscored Wayne 3-1 in the fourth as the Blue Devils pushed one more run across the plate in the fifth to win 7-4.
Mikaela McManigal singled twice and scored while Brianna Nissen singled and drove in two runs for Wayne. O’Reilly singled, drove in a run and scored; Kniesche singled and scored; Logan Miller singled and drove in a run; Dorey singled; Sweetland scored twice; Brooklyn Kruse drove in a run and scored as Hailey Schroeder scored.
Dorey picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing four runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out eight batters and walking four.

Wayne High will continue their road stretch of games at South Sioux City this Thursday, September 3 and at Columbus Lakeview on Tuesday, September 8.
