Blue Devil Softball Goes 1-1 During B-6 Subdistrict, Face NEN During Tuesday’s Elimination Game

WAYNE – Four Class B high school softball teams opened the Class B-6 Subdistrict from the Wayne Softball Complex Monday afternoon where one was sent home.

#1 Wayne opened with a 17-0 win in three innings over #4 Schuyler but suffered a 12-2 loss to #3 Crete in four innings. WHS is now 20-6 and will next compete in an elimination game at noon on Tuesday, October 6.

Other scores saw Crete defeat #3 NEN, 8-0 in five innings while NEN eliminated Schuyler, 12-0 by run rule. The Warriors end their season at 0-22.

During the win over Schuyler, Wayne took control early thanks to a 14-run first inning followed up by a three-run second inning. WHS won 17-0 using 12 hits.

Kendall Dorey recorded a grand slam, a single and run scored for Wayne. Logan Miller doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Hope O’Reilly doubled, drove in a run and scored twice. Brooklyn Kruse singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Mikaela McManigal singled twice, drove in three runs and scored once; Kylen Robbins singled, drove in a run and scored; both Liberty Titiml and Hailey Schroeder singled and scored; Virginia Kniesche singled and drove in a run; Taytum Sweetland and Kierah Hase accounted for a RBI and two runs scored as Delaney Kruse, Nikki Fertig and Jersi Jensen scored. Brianna Nissen had a RBI.

Dorey picked up the win in three innings allowing two hits while striking out nine batters and walking one.

In the loss to Crete, Wayne took an early 1-0 lead in the first before giving up a pair of five-run innings in the bottom of the first and second. The Cardinals added another run in the third before both teams scored a run in the fourth. Final favored Crete 12-2 by run rule in four innings.

Brooklyn Kruse singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored while Sweetland doubled and drove in a run for Wayne. Schroeder also scored.

Dorey suffered the loss in three and two-thirds allowing 12 runs (nine earned) off 11 hits while striking out six batters and walking three.

Day two of the B-6 softball tourney will open at noon on Tuesday, October 6 with an elimination game between #1 Wayne (20-6) and #2 NEN (21-5). The winner will face #3 Crete (18-9) at 2 p.m. in the championship game with an if necessary game scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Wayne Softball Complex.

There will be 10 subdistrict champions crowned with the next six highest teams in the wildcard standings be re-seeded 1-16 for a winner-take-all, best of three series district final on Friday, October 9.

 

Class C area softball teams:

C-3 (Hackberry Fields in Wahoo): #1 Bishop Neumann defeated #4 West Point-Beemer, 14-2 and #2 Freeman defeated Southern/Diller-Odell, 4-3 while Bishop Neumann defeated Freeman, 3-2 in the championship game.

 C-4 (Timmerman Park in West Point): #1 GACC defeated #4 North Bend, 9-0 and #2 Ponca defeated #3 Raymond Central, 9-7 while GACC defeated Ponca, 13-0 in the championship game.

C-6 (Fairbury Softball Complex): #1 Fairbury defeated #4 Pierce, 12-0 and #2 Highway 91 defeated #3 Centennial, 8-6 while Fairbury defeated HWY 91, 18-1 in the championship game.
