WEST POINT/WAYNE – As the Blue Devil softball team closed out their regular season with a road loss Thursday night ahead of a weekend conference tourney, WHS was selected to host the B-6 Subdistrict Tournament early next week.

From Timmerman Park in West Point, Wayne High competed against Guardian Angels Central Catholic Thursday.

GACC took the lead in the fifth and held on for the 4-1 win improving to 17-2 on the season while Wayne High fell to 17-4. WHS recorded five errors in the loss.

Brooklyn Kruse posted the lone run with a homerun while Kierah Haase also singled.

Kendall Dorey suffered the loss in six innings allowing four runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out nine batters and walking four.

The Wayne High softball team will next open the Mid State Conference Tourney back in West Point against O’Neill at 10 a.m. Pierce will face Boone Central at 10 also Saturday with the winner to play GACC.

 

Moving into the Class B-6 Subdistrict, the Wayne Softball Complex will be the site where four teams will look to advance to a district final later in the week. Wayne High will welcome in Crete, NEN (Wisner-Pilger, Pender and BRLD) and Schuyler for a double-elimination, two-day tournament on Monday and Tuesday, October 5 – 6.

#1 Wayne High is now 17-4 on the season and will open against #4 Schuyler (0-19) at 2 p.m. The other half of the bracket will feature #2 NEN (18-4) vs. #3 Crete (16-9) at 2 p.m.

Class C area softball teams:

C-3 (Hackberry Fields in Wahoo): #1 Bishop Neumann (18-7) vs. #4 West Point-Beemer (3-21) at 10 a.m. and #2 Freeman (18-7) vs. #3 Southern/Diller-Odell (6-18) at noon. Single elimination with championship game set for 2 p.m. Monday.

C-4 (Timmerman Park in West Point): #1 GACC (17-2) vs. #4 North Bend (7-18) at 1 p.m. and #2 Ponca (9-7) vs. #3 Raymond Central (12-17) at 3 p.m. Single elimination with championship game set for 5 p.m. Monday.

C-6 (Fairbury Softball Complex): #1 Fairbury (19-7) vs. #4 Pierce (4-18) at 1 p.m. and #2 Highway 91 (16-11) vs. #3 Centennial (9-19) at 3:15 p.m. Single elimination with championship game set for 5:30 p.m. Monday.
