Blue Devil Softball District Finals Bound, Tori Kniesche Is Now The Record Holder In Class B With 386 Strikeouts This Season

WAYNE – For the seventh consecutive outing since October 3, the Wayne High softball team played on their home diamond of the Wayne Softball Complex.

The opening game of the B-6 Subdistrict Tournament Tuesday featured an elimination contest and saw #2 Seward defeat #3 Blue River for the second time 13-3 in four innings to face #1 Wayne yet again.

In the B-6 Subdistrict Championship game, #1 Wayne scored twice early over #2 Seward to hold on for the 2-0 win advancing to the District Final on Friday, October 11 at a time and place to be determined. WHS has won 23 consecutive games to sit 28-3 overall as Seward fell to 18-12.

Kendall Dorey scored twice and doubled while Kayla Fleming singled, doubled and drove in a run for Wayne. Tori Kniesche, Aliah Schulz and Nicole Fertig all singled as Hope O’Reilly also drove in a run.

Tori Kniesche is now the record holder for Class B single season strikeouts with 386 (380, Jenna Marston of Elkhorn) as she picked up the complete game win in seven innings striking out 18 and walking two.

Class B District finals are set for Friday, October 11. Pairings will be released once all subdistricts go final Tuesday evening. Wayne High entered the day fourth in wildcard power points as the 10 subdistrict winners will be joined by the six next highest based on power points to be re-seeded 1-16.
