TEKAMAH – Before heading into a three-game weekend invitational, the Wayne High softball team had to take care of business on the road against a top-Class C opponent.
From Tekamah, WHS took on the Tekamah-Herman Tigers.
The Blue Devils started strong with a three-run opening inning before adding another run in the second. Following three scoreless innings, Wayne High tacked on a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to win 7-0. Wayne High is now 10-3 on the season while the Tigers fell to 8-6.
Wayne High recorded 10 hits on the night, four coming from Kendall Dorey. She accounted for two doubles and two homeruns (correction from on air) which led to four RBI. Kayla Fleming singled twice, Brianna Nissen and Aliah Schultz both singled and drove in a run, Tori Kniesche and Nicole Fertig each singled and Brooklyn Kruse accounted for a RBI.
Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game shutout victory in seven innings allowing three hits while striking out 18 batters.
