Blue Devil Junior High Boys Sweep Battle Creek To Open Season

BATTLE CREEK – The Wayne Junior High seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams began their season Thursday night on the road.

From the Battle Creek elementary school, Wayne played their first of three games over a five-day period.

In the seventh grade showdown, Wayne led by 20 towards the end of a third quarter thanks to a shot at the buzzer from Drue Davis who led the team with 11 points. The Blue Devils defeated the Braves 41-21.

Other scoring for Wayne came from Caiden Baker (9), Devin Anderson (6), Caden Wiese (4), Kaleb Moormeier (3), Kaden Hunt (2), Parker Kesting (2), Sam Junck (2) and Ryan Karsky (2).

During the eighth grade match, Wayne held off Battle Creek 39-28.

Brooks Kneifl was the team leader in scoring with 10 points followed by Danial Judd with eight, six from Alex Phelps and another five points provided by Andrew Jones. Other scoring saw Sedjro Agoumba (4), Carter Junck (3), Hunter Schultz (2) and Easton Blecke (1).

The Wayne JH boys will next host Pierce on Saturday, January 12 at 9 a.m. and Columbus Lakeview will be in town on Monday, January 14 at 6:30 p.m. The games will be played at the Wayne Jr/Sr high school.
