Blue Devil Invite Results, Wayne & Wakefield Individuals Shine  

WAYNE – With a road weekend invitational and a home meet next Tuesday, the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team welcomed in five girls teams and six boys teams during the Blue Devil Invite Tuesday.

From Kern Track in Wayne, WHS hosted their first of two home invites in a matter of a week.

The Blue Devil girls finished fifth with 67 points while the Wayne High boys placed sixth with 48 points. Coach Hochstein stated, “we did have a ton of PR’s and competed against some of the toughest competition across several classes of schools.  All the teams were able to enter up to five per event so we got a ton of experience for a huge number of kids and everyone was able to learn a lot early season.  We now have two weeks to put pieces together before the push towards the Norfolk Classic, Conference and Districts.”

Boone Central was crowned girls division champs with 135 points, followed in second by Columbus Scotus with 124 points, Pierce placed third (107.5), Columbus Lakeview took fourth (77.5) and Wayne High rounded out the top five teams with 67 points. Wakefield finished sixth with 47 points.

The Blue Devil girls were led by the 1600-meter sprint medley team (Barner, Jones, Maas and Powicki) who crossed the finish line first in a time of 4:56.

Track leaders were Laura Haseman took second in the 3200-meter run (13:55) and third in the 1600-meter run (6:08) while Kiara Krusemark placed third in the 800-meter run (2:39), fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:07).

Faith Powicki finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:44).

Brooklyn Kruse placed second in the shot put (34’ 9 ½”) and third in the discus throw (106’ 4”).

Other field event results came from Katy Jones placing fifth in the high jump (4’ 6”) and Andi Belt sixth in the triple jump (32’ 4 ½”).

Wayne High relay results came from the 4×400-meter team (fourth – 4:41) and the 4×800-meter team (second – 10:56).

 

A Wakefield girls top performer came from Jordan Metzler who won the 400-meter dash (1:01) and also crossed the line first in the 300-meter hurdles (49.63). She took second in the triple jump (33’ 8”) and placed fifth in the long jump (16’ 1 ¾”).

Anna Lundahl also won the discus throw (111’ 9”)

Wakefield relay results came from the 4×100-meter team (fourth – 56.04) and the 4×800-meter team (fifth – 12:38). Also, the 1600-meter sprint medley placed sixth (5:30).

 

 

Pierce finished a top of the boys division with 134 points, followed in second by Boys Town with 108 points, Boone Central placed third (105), Columbus Lakeview took fourth (81) and Wakefield rounded out the top five teams with 56 points. Wayne High placed sixth (48) and Columbus Scotus took seventh (26).

The Wayne High boys were led by Layne Evans who won the 400-meter dash (52.43) and also won the 300-meter hurdles (41.33).

Sedjro Agoumba took fourth in the 400-meter dash (53.53), Alex Phelps finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (43.58) and Jesus Zavala placed fourth in the 3200-meter run (11:13).

Other field events results saw Treyton Blecke tie for third in the high jump (5’ 10”); Reece Wilson-Jaqua fourth in the pole vault (11’) and Eli Barner sixth in the pole vault (10’ 6”).

Wayne High relay results came from the 4×100-meter team (sixth – 46.37); 4×400-meter team (fifth – 3:45) and the 4×800-meter team (sixth – 9:56). Also, the 1600-meter sprint medley placed fifth (4:36).

 

The Trojan boys top performances came from Justin Erb finished second in the 400-meter dash (52.87) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.01) while Blake Brown placed third in the long jump (21’ 3 ½”), third in the triple jump (42’ 6”) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.92).

Cade Johnson took third in the 800-meter run (2:15), Ryan Anderson was third in the 3200-meter run (11:09), Logan Bokemper placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (53.77), Hunter Schultz finished sixth in the 800-meter run (2:18), Ryan Anderson placed sixth in the 1600-meter run (5:14) and Nick Arenas took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (44.48),

Wakefield relay results came from the 4×100-meter team (third – 45.10) and the 4×400-meter team (fourth – 3:42). Also, the 1600-meter sprint medley placed third (4:23).

 

The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the Wisner-Pilger Invite on Saturday, April 10 at 9 a.m. while the Wakefield track & field team will be off until Tuesday, April 13 when they compete in the BRLD Invite starting at 10 a.m.

The Blue Devils will host their final home meet on Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
