Blue Devil Girls Suffer Home Loss To BRLD

WAYNE – With a busy week ahead for both the Wayne High girls and boys basketball teams in early January, the Blue Devil girls began with a home outing on Monday against a fellow Class C1 opponent.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, WHS welcomed in Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons Decatur for a girls only contest.

Wayne High pulled back within two points halfway through the third quarter before BRLD won the game, 60-41. The Wolverines are now 7-2 while Wayne High fell to 5-6.

First quarter scoring favored BRLD, 18-11 before Wayne High kept the game close with a 10-9 second. BRLD led 27-21 at the break. BRLD then outscored WHS, 14-10 in the third and 19-10 in the fourth. Final favored the Wolverines, 60-41.

Wayne High was led in scoring by Rubie Klausen with 20 points while Brooklyn Kruse added nine points. Other scoring came from Mia Nelsen who poured in seven points, Kiara Krusemark finished with three points as Kyla Krusemark tallied two points.

BRLD leaders were Alyssa Buchholz with 18 points, Jordan Snyder with 16 points and Elise Anderson with 10 points.

The Wayne High girls will next visit Pierce on Friday while BRLD will next host West Point-Beemer on Saturday.
