CROFTON – Following a home loss on parent’s night the Wayne High girls joined the Blue Devil boys for their first of back-to-back road games this week.
From Crofton high school, Wayne High visited the Warriors Tuesday.
In the girls contest, #4 Crofton outscored Wayne 24-10 in the first before adding to their lead with a 14-9 second. The Warriors led 38-19 at the break. Crofton then used a 16-10 third quarter before Wayne won the fourth, 18-15. Final saw #4 Crofton top Wayne 69-47 to improve to 13-3 as WHS dropped their 11th straight to now sit 4-13 on the season.
Frankie Klausen posted a team-high 22 points (six three’s) followed by Emily Longe with 16 points and five boards. Peyton French and Mia Nelsen both tallied three points while Mikaela McManigal added a point. Rubie Klausen grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Blue Devils finished 4-11 from the three-point line and 7-13 from the charity stripe.
During the boys game, #7 Wayne took control from the start with a 21-7 first quarter and held off a second quarter run from the Warriors of 20-18. WHS led 41-23 at half. The Blue Devils then outscored Crofton 15-13 in the third before Crofton won the fourth 17-15. Wayne High got back on the winning track with a 71-53 victory to now sit 10-6 on the season while Crofton fell to 4-10 dropping their sixth straight.
Shea Sweetland recorded 33 points (seven three’s) while Josh Lutt poured in 13 points. Cody Rogers followed with nine points, Tyrus Eischeid added eight points and nine boards, Brandon Bartos and Trevor DeBoer both tallied three points as Tanner Walling tacked on two points.
Wayne High shot 2-4 from the foul line and 9-22 from behind the arc.
The Wayne High girls and boys will next visit Hartington Cedar Catholic on Friday, January 24.
