Blue Devil Girls Drop Road Game By A Point, Boys Post Home Victory

NORFOLK/WAYNE – The Wayne High girls and boys were both in action Friday night, but in different gyms taking on different opponents.

The Blue Devil girls visited Norfolk Catholic.

Both teams tallied eight first quarter points before WHS led 17-14 after the second. In the second half, the Knights won the low scoring third quarter 9-4 and 12-11 in the fourth. Final saw Norfolk Catholic hold off Wayne 35-34 to improve to 5-7 as Wayne High fell to 5-9.

Gabi Meyer led Wayne High in scoring with nine points as Frankie Klausen followed seven points and Kendall tabbed six points. Other scoring came from Allison Claussen and Annie Kniesche with four points each, Ashton Boyer three and a point from Sidney Biggerstaff.

Carly Marshall paced the Knights with 12 points as Mary Fennessy poured in five points.

The Wayne High boys hosted Guardian Angels Central Catholic for parent’s night.

Both teams stayed even early as GACC took a 26-25 lead after a half of play. WHS then used a 15-7 third quarter before the Bluejays won the fourth (20-17). Final saw Wayne High hold on for the 57-53 win to snap a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-6 while GACC lost their first game they played in 2019 to sit 2-9.

Tyrus Eischeid paced WHS with 15 points and eight boards on 7-9 shooting from the field (2-3 FT). Shea Sweetland poured in 11 points as Cody Rogers finished with 10 points. Other scoring came from Marcus Fertig with eight points, Kallan Herman tacked on seven points as Tyler Gillian and Trevor DeBoer tallied three points.

Blake Ulrich led GACC in scoring with 16 points as Casey Doernemann recorded 12 points and ta team-high nine boards.
