ALBION – In the month of September, the Wayne High girls and boys cross country program will take part in six invitationals. Their first was Friday in Albion.
The Boone Central Invite was held at the Albion Country Club and attracted several high school and junior high teams.
Wayne High won the girls division with 17 points while the Blue Devil boys finished fifth with 89 points.
Following Wayne’s 17 points, Hastings placed runner-up thanks to the tie-breaker (52), Columbus third (52), Nebraska Christian finished fourth (60) and Columbus Scotus rounded out the top five teams with 92 points.
The Wayne High girls were led by sophomore Kyla Krusemark (21:38) in second place while sophomore Jala Krusemark (21:57), senior Laura Hasemann (22:36) and junior Frantzdie Barner (22:41) finished fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.
Individually, the top overall female 5k runner was Hannah Swanson from Nebraska Christian in a time of 20:55 among the 78 competitors.
Other Wayne results came from freshman Lilyan Hurner (22nd – 25:04); sophomore Olivia Hanson (23rd – 25:13); freshman Kennasyn Blecke (29th – 26:08); freshman Josie Leiy (30th – 26:11); sophomore Yama Kantai (38th – 27:09); junior Raegan Maas (66th – 33:42) and freshman Sharon Vasquez (71st – 35:54).
Emilyn Kavan from Columbus Scotus won the Junior High girls 2,000 yard race in a time of 9:35 among the 46 runners.
Wayne results were posted by eighth grader Essynce Owens-Webb (4th – 10:28); seventh grader Gracelynn Daniels (25th – 12:00) and seventh grader Hannah Brogren (28th – 12:33).
Columbus won the boys division (22), Hastings placed runner-up (29), Nebraska Christian took third (64), Columbus Scotus finished fourth (84) and Wayne High rounded out the top five teams with 89 points.
The Wayne High boys were led by freshman Drew Miller with a seventh place finish at 18:34.
Individually, the top overall male runner was Noah Lawrence from Columbus in a time of 17:30 on the 5k course among the 129 competitors.
Other top Wayne runners came from junior Alex Frank (22nd – 20:13); junior Adrian Klinetobe (33rd – 20:41); senior Ethan McCraney (37th – 20:51); sophomore Kasen York (50th – 21:23); senior Easton Blecke (55th – 21:39); junior Mason Ley (58th – 21:41); freshman Boden Dobbins (61st – 22:04); freshman Blade Nelson (86th – 24:23); sophomore Zander Liston (97th – 25:04); junior Parker Kesting (110th – 26:31) and freshman Payton Junck (117th – 27:28).
The Junior High boys 2,000 yard race was won by Kane Wetovik from Fullerton (8:35) among the 81 runners.
As a team, the Wayne JH boys finished first with 43 points.

The Wayne High girls and boys cross country team is off until Friday, September 9 next competing in the Norfolk Catholic Invite from Skyview Lake starting at 3 p.m. The Wayne Invite is scheduled for Monday, September 12 from the Wayne Country Club.
