LINCOLN – Closing out the inaugural 2021 NSAA State Bowling Championship week were the girls teams.
From Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, the Wayne girls earned the #1 seed with their 16-2 record Wednesday morning.
In the opening round, WHS defeated #8 Bellevue West (3-0) before defeating #4 Lexington, 3-0 in the winner’s bracket. The Blue Devils then advanced to the finals over #3 Papillion-La Vista South with their third straight 3-0 win and didn’t drop a game all day with another 3-0 win over #5 Millard West in the finals. Millard West had to win four elimination games, three in which went 3-2, to earn a spot in the finals. Millard West knocked down 1,000 more pins than second place pin-total #3 Papillion-LaVista South’s 2,133. Millard West totaled 3,283 pins.
Wayne High finished their season as state champions with a 20-2 record and third-most pins with 1,952 but posted the best average of 162.67.
Other first round results saw #4 Lexington defeat #5 Millard West, 3-1; #3 Papillion-La Vista South defeated #6 Lincoln Pius X, 3-1 and #7 Columbus defeated #2 Seward (3-0).
The other winner’s bracket result saw Papillion-La Vista South edge Columbus, 3-2.
In the elimination first round, Millard West defeated Bellevue West, 3-2 while Seward defeated Lincoln Pius X, 3-0. Seward also defeated Lexington, 3-0 while Millard West edged Columbus, 3-2.
Millard West then eliminated Seward, 3-2 before knocking out Papillion-La Vista South, 3-0 to earn a finals berth against Wayne.
