Blue Devil Football Slides To #9 Seed, Travels For Second Straight Year In Opening Round

HASTINGS – After battling with a top team in the state Friday night, the Wayne High football team earned a wildcard for the second straight year and will continue their season this weekend.

According to a release from the NSAA over the weekend, the remaining playoff brackets were updated for B, C1, C2 and six-man.

Wayne High closed out their season with a 19-9 home loss to Pierce falling to 6-3 while the Bluejays are 8-0.

#9 WHS will travel to Hastings and compete against #8 Adams Central on Friday, October 30. The Patriots snapped a two-game losing streak last Friday winning at Fillmore Central, 49-14. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. as pregame coverage on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com is set for 5:40 p.m.

C1 Football

Adams Central suffered losses of 33-22 at Kearney Catholic and 26-20 in Hastings against St. Paul who ended the year at #4 and #3 in the playoffs each with one loss.

WHS is back in the playoffs for the 13th time in program history and the third time in four years after qualifying last year and dropping a 21-7 semifinal game at the defending champion, Wahoo.

Adams Central is making their 23rd trip in the postseason and for the third year in a row. The Patriots lost to Pierce, 54-14 in the semifinal round last year.

The winner would get #1 Ashland-Greenwood (9-0) or #16 Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (7-2) who play at 7 p.m. Friday. #5 Auburn (7-1) hosts #12 Battle Creek (6-3) at 6:30 p.m. and #13 Chadron (6-2) visits #4 Kearney Catholic (7-1) at 2 p.m. CST on the same side as Wayne.

The other half of the bracket features #2 Pierce (8-0) vs. #15 West Point-Beemer (6-3) at 7 p.m., #7 Wahoo (6-2) vs. #10 Mitchell (8-1) at 2 p.m., #3 St. Paul (8-1) vs. #14 Cozad (6-3) at TBA and #6 Lincoln Christian (7-1) vs. #11 Gothenburg (6-3) at 6 p.m.
