WAYNE – As eight-man playoff football teams prepare for their quarterfinal round next week, 11-man teams across the state are looking to advance to a semifinal in their respective classes.
Wayne High secured a quarterfinal Class C1 home contest thanks to a 28-21 win at #6 Kearney Catholic last Friday to now sit 8-2. The 11th ranked Blue Devils will host #3 Ashland-Greenwood Friday night at 7 p.m. from Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College.
The Bluejays cruised past #14 Cozad (53-14) on November 1 to improve to 10-0.
WHS has never advanced out of the second round as they have only won three playoff games in their now 12 postseason appearances. Ashland-Greenwood has won 18 of their past 21 games after finishing with a quarterfinal loss last year to Class C1 runner-up Ord (42-7) ending their season at 8-3.
The Blue Devils have won five straight with their only losses at #2 Wahoo (0-47) to open the season and at #4 Pierce (0-42) being their last defeat on September 27.

The winner would advance to next Friday’s semifinal round against either #2 Wahoo (10-0) or #7 Columbus Scotus. (8-2) who play at 7 p.m. Friday night. Other quarterfinal contests will feature #1 Adams Central (10-0) at #9 Aurora (7-3) at 7 p.m. and #4 Pierce (10-0) at #12 Ord (7-3) at 7 p.m.
Northeast Nebraska Class C2 contests will feature #8 Battle Creek (9-1) at #1 Sutton (9-1) at 7 p.m.; #5 BRLD (9-1) at #4 North Bend Central (9-1) at 7 p.m. and #2 Oakland-Craig (10-0) vs. #7 Doniphan-Trumbull (9-1) at 7 p.m.
