WAYNE –Following a one-day postponement due to a Tuesday afternoon storm, the Wayne High boys hosted the B-2 District Meet.
From the Wayne Country Club, Wednesday’s outing showcased 12 teams.
It took a two-hole playoff for the Wayne High boys to hold off Bennington and finish third place to qualify for state with a 352.
State qualifying teams will be Mount Michael Benedictine (307), Columbus Lakeview (345) and Wayne (352) again who outlasted Bennington (352) in a two-hole playoff.
Mount Michael Benedictine teammates went one and two with Jacob Goertz shooting an even PAR while Trevor Gutschewski finished runner-up with a one-over 73. Wayne High’s Tanner Walling placed third individually with a five-over 77.
Blue Devil teammates Drew Sharpe (82) and Bo Armstrong (83) each placed ninth and 10th respectively. Other state qualifying golfers will be Kyran Bartos (110) and Camron Weaselhead (116).
Other area teams included Pierce in fifth (356), South Sioux City (seventh – 380); West Point-Beemer (ninth – 389) and O’Neill (10th – 390). Pierce’s Abram Scholting shot an 82 to finish seventh and qualify as an individual.
The 2022 NSAA Boys State Golf Championships will be Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 – 25. Class A will compete at the Norfolk Country Club; Class B at the Scotts Bluff Country Club in Scottsbluff; Class C at the Elks Country Club in Columbus and Class D at the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte. Each of the two-day championship rounds will start at 9 a.m.
