NORFOLK – A late March golf outing for several area high schools was made up Monday.
From the Norfolk Country Club, six varsity programs along with a handful of JV teams competed in the Norfolk Catholic Invite.
Battle Creek pulled away from the field with a 323 followed by Columbus Scotus in second with a 350 and Wayne High right behind in third with a 351. Norfolk JV placed fourth with a 373, Lutheran High Northeast fifth (374), Norfolk Catholic (sixth – 378) and Boone Central/Newman Grove rounded out the varsity teams in seventh (400).
Three of the top four individual medalists were from Battle Creek and all shot an 80 or below. Cayden McCracken (BC) shot an 18-hole low of 78, followed by Bryce VunCannon (Scotus) with a 79, Ty Heimes (BC) took third with a 79 and Luke Stueve (BC) finished fourth with am 80.
Wayne High also had three medalists inside the top 10 of Jonah Brodersen placing seventh and Tanner Walling eighth both with an 86 as Christopher Woerdemann took 10th with an 88.
Shea Sweetland (17th – 91) and Peyton DeWald (25th – 94) also competed on the varsity team.
Wayne’s Drew Sharpe was the top JV golfer shooting an 88 to place 11th while Nolan Hunke took 37th with a 105.
The Blue Devil JV team visited the Randolph Invite also Monday where they placed 10th as a team with a 430.
Creighton edged Cedar Catholic (321-323) to be crowned champion with the host Randolph placing sixth (368).
Braxton Brockhaus of Creighton shot the low score with a 72 followed by Nolan Klug (HCC) with a 76.
For Wayne’s JV squad, Jasper Hank and Alex Echtenkamp both shot a 102. Matt Navrkal finished with a 106 as Collin McAllister shot a 120.
The Wayne High boys golf team will close out their regular season at the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invite on Thursday, May 9. Tee time from the Cedar View Country Club is at 10 a.m. featuring teams of Tekamah-Herman, Pierce, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Crofton, Elkhorn Valley, Hartington/Newcastle, Homer, Madison, Randolph and Wakefield.
