BEEMER – The Wayne High boys golf team opened their season Monday morning into the afternoon during the West Point-Beemer Invite.
From the Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer, 12 teams competed in the invitational.
Wayne High battled the difficult wind throughout the 18-hole round and dominated the field with a 360, 21 strokes better than the host West Point-Beemer (381).
Battle Creek took third with a 390, Wisner-Pilger finished fourth (398) and GACC closed out the team scoring with a 421.
Other team scoring came from Schuyler (sixth – 424), West Point-Beemer JV (seventh – 438), Tri County Northeast (eighth – 444), Clarkson-Leigh (ninth – 458), Pender and Hartington-Newcastle tied for 10th (481) and BRLD (12th – 495).
Wayne High saw all five participants finish in the top 15 led by Tanner Walling placing third with an 85. Christopher Woerdemann shot a 90 to finish fifth, followed by Andrew Jones with a 91 in sixth, Bo Armstrong took ninth with a 94 as Drew Sharpe came in 13th with a 98.
Individually, Rockney Peck of Wisner-Pilger shot the 18-hole low with a 76 followed by Ty Kaup of West Point-Beemer shooting an 85.
The Wayne High boys golf team will next compete in the Wisner-Pilger Triangular on Monday, April 5 with Oakland Craig starting at 4 p.m. back at the Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer.
