Blue Devil Boys Cross Country Finishes 11th At State, Miller Earns 14th Place Medal

KEARNEY – Members of the Wayne High boys cross country program took part in the second race of the day during the 2022 NSAA State Cross Country Championships.

From the Kearney Country Club, Wayne High joined 14 other teams along with several individual runners.

The Blue Devil boys finished 11th with 169 points in the Class C race.

Leading Wayne High on the 5,000-meter course was freshman Drew Miller earning a 14th place medal (17:34.51).

Other WHS boys results came from Alexander Frank (41st – 18:22.02); Easton Blecke (92nd – 19:38.70); Kasen York (96th – 19:44.61); Ethan McCraney (99th – 19:57.11) and Adrian Klinetobe (108th – 20:21.87).

A note from Superintendent of Wayne Community Schools, Dr. Mark Lenihan: the Wayne High girls and boys cross country team is on their way back from Kearney. Fans are invited to line up along Main Street this evening as the team is expected to arrive between 7:30 – 8 p.m. and will be coming from the south on HWY 15. The bus will drive up Main Street. A pep rally is being planned for next week.

Gothenburg won the team race with 45 points, Lincoln Christian followed in runner-up (47), Fort Calhoun took third (54), Milford placed fourth (76) and Aurora rounded out the top five teams with 98 points.

Senior Carson Noecker cruised to a victory in a time of 14:58.3 among the 115 runners. The Hartington native recorded a 4:50 mile pace.

 

Class B boys will then resume the races starting at 2:30 p.m., followed by Class A boys at 3 p.m., Class B girls at 3:30 p.m. and Class A girls at 4 p.m. Awards for Classes A/B will be at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class C girls results:

Wayne High finished first place with 74 points: Jala Krusemark (14th – 20:42.42); Laura Hasemann (15th – 20:47.85); Kyla Krusemark (21st – 21:16.22); Lilyan Hurner (52nd – 22:48.83); Olivia Hanson (57th – 23:01.63) and Frantzdie Barner (75th – 23:32.10).

Ava Noecker (Hartington): 47th – 22:38.4

Lesly Sanchez Herrera (West Point-Beemer): 59th – 23:07.6

Aylla Weeder (Pierce): 62nd – 23:14.6

 

Class C boys results:

Hartington placed 10th with 161 points: Noecker (1st – 14:58.26); Cole Rosener (65th – 18:55.84); Alex Elks (86th – 19:28.16); Adam Elks (87th – 19:29.18); Alan Santiago (110th – 20:27.22) and Lukas Wortmann (114th – 20:51).

Ashton Koch (Pierce): 57th – 18:46.9

 

Class D girls results: Hemingford (1st – 38 ); Ainsworth (2nd – 40). Jordyn Arens from Crofton was the top individual runner in a time of 19:29.79 among the 124 runners.

Alea Rasmussen (Wisner-Pilger): 20th – 21:32.1

Cecilia Kann (Norfolk Catholic): 27th – 21:56.3

Callie Fisher (Lutheran High Northeast): 49th – 22:50.5

Rhyanne Mackling (Tri County Northeast): 53rd – 22:53

 

Class D boys results: Cornerstone Christian (1st – 16); North Platte St. Patrick’s (2nd – 19). Trey Robertson from Wallace was the top individual in a time of 16:38.7 among the 128 runners.

Norfolk Catholic finished 11th (98): Alex Foecking (31st – 18:12.99); Jonah Ash (57th – 18:48.02); Dominic Liess (76th – 19:13.94); Nathan Kalous (89th – 19:44.65) and Blaise Kann (101st – 20:14.50).

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge placed 12th (104): Tyler Olson (40th – 18:23.05); Preston Rose (65th – 18:59.01); Carter Korth (74th – 19:12.29); Koby Detlefsen (123rd – 22:27.64) and Taner Stanley (127th – 23:55.07).

Brody Taylor (Ponca): 7th – 17:20.5

Gannon Walsh (Pender): 10th – 17:34.1

Kolton Kralik (GACC): 48th – 18:34
