Blue Devil Boys Bowling Finishes 1-2 During State Championships

LINCOLN – After a combined 89 bowlers battled for the top spot Monday in the individual portion of state bowling, the NSAA Boys State Team Bowling Championships began Tuesday morning.

From Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Wayne High opened the morning as the #5 seed and suffered a 3-2 loss against #4 Millard North. After going down 2-0, Wayne won game three in a one ball roll off and then charged back to take game four. It came down to the 10th frame of game five where Millard North recorded the victory.

In the elimination game Wayne High never trailed and knocked out #8 Lexington, 3-0 while #2 Lincoln Pius X eliminated Wayne High, 3-1 as the Blue Devils suffered close losses in games three and four. The Wayne boys finished their season fifth place in the inaugural bowling state championships with an overall record of 14-9.


Other first round results saw #1 Fremont defeat #8 Lexington, 3-0; #3 Seward defeated #6 Bellevue West, 3-1 and #2 Lincoln Pius X defeated #7 Columbus, 3-2.

In the winner’s bracket: Fremont defeated Millard North (3-0) and Seward got past Lincoln Pius X (3-0) while Seward advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win over Fremont.

Another first round elimination result saw Bellevue West defeat Columbus (3-0) and then Bellevue West eliminated Millard North (3-0).  Bellevue West edged Lincoln Pius X, 3-2 while #1 Fremont then eliminated Bellevue West, 3-0 earning a finals rematch with Seward. Fremont went onto defeat Seward 3-1 and 3-0 in the winner-take-all match.

2020-21 Bowling Team Championships – BOYS (1)

NSAA Girls Division Bowling State Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, February 10. Wayne High earned the #1 seed with their 16-2 record and will open with #8 Bellevue West (8-10) at 9 a.m. The winner or loser would next face the winner or loser of either #4 Lexington (17-3) or #5 Millard West (17-2) at 10 a.m.

The other half of the bracket will feature #3 Papillion-La Vista South (18-4) vs. #6 Lincoln Pius X (10-9) and #2 Seward (15-3) vs. #7 Columbus (10-6).
