WAYNE – Following road dual competition and a weekend road invite last week, the Wayne High bowling teams made more history by hosting their first-ever NSAA home competition this past weekend.
From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed in Pender/Thurston County Friday evening.
The Lady Blue Devils secured a 20.5 – 0.5 victory over TC and are now 7-0 on the season while the Wayne boys won 21-0 and improved to 7-2.
For the girls bowling dual, it took Wayne High a few frames to warm up but battled and ended up winning game #1 over TC 706-551 and winning 7.5 – 0.5. Leading a balanced Wayne attack in game #1 was Andi Belt with a 160. Other scorers were Jamie Janke (153), Brianna Nissen (144), Natalie Bentjen (137) and Catherine Rutenbeck (114).
Game #2 saw Wayne rolling from the get go and ending up with a season high team score of 789 to TC’s 558 and sweeping the win 8-0. Leading Wayne was Jamie Janke with a season best score of 204 while other scorers included Brianna Nissen/Jersi Jensen (164), Andi Belt (159), Natalie Bentjen (153) and Riley Haschke (109).
The Lady Blue Devils then went on to win the Baker game 106-93 and win the overall match 20.5 – 0.5.
The Wayne boys jumped out right away in game #1 and had the best game of their season shooting a team score of 891 to TC’s team score of 543 and went on to win 8-0. Leading the way for Wayne was Tanner Sievers shooting a personal best 227. Other scorers included Brogan Foote (197), Shayne Geidner (172), Peyton Riesberg (150) and James Dorcey (146).
Game #2 was a bit more of battle through the first five frames. The two teams battled back and forth but Wayne pulled away in the second half of the game for the 723-528 victory and won the match 8-0. Scores for Wayne were Brogan Foote (194), Tanner Sievers/James Dorcey (169), Shayne Geidner/Peyton Riesberg (124), Jacob Anderson (119) and Carter Hasemann (117).
Wayne would go on to also win the Baker match 146-87 and take the overall match 21-0.
The Wayne High bowling teams will next compete in the Millard Invite in Omaha on Monday, December 21 to close out their 2020 schedule before opening 2021 by hosting Norfolk on Thursday, January 7 in Wayne.
