Blue Devil Bats Come Alive In 12-3 Road Victory, Dorey Strikes Out 11 Batters

TEKAMAH – Following a home victory earlier in the week, the Wayne High softball team took to the road Thursday night.

From the Tekamah Softball Complex, WHS visited the Tekamah-Herman Tigers.

Wayne High jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and added a run in the second while Tekamah-Herman used a 2-1 third inning advantage to trail, 4-2. WHS answered back with their own 2-1 inning in the fourth and outscored the Tigers 6-0 in the fifth and final inning to win 12-3.

The Blue Devils improved to 6-3 while Tekamah-Herman fell to 6-7.

Virginia Kniesche singled, doubled and scored twice while Kendall Dorey added three singles and three RBI. Taytum Sweetland singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Mikaela McManigal singled twice and drove in two runs; Brooklyn Kruse and Taytem Ellis both singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Hope O’Reilly and Liberty Titiml both accounted for a RBI and run scored as Brianna Nissen scored twice.

Dorey (125 pitches) accounted for the complete game victory in five innings allowing three runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out 11 baters and walking six.

Wayne High will next compete in the Omaha Mercy Softball Invite on Saturday, September 11. WHS will join Bishop Neumann, David City/East Butler, North Bend Central, Platteview, Plattsmouth, South Sioux City and the host Omaha Mercy.
