WAYNE/LAUREL – High school basketball returns to the radio this weekend with a trio of doubleheaders.
Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com will carry a pair of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge games hosting Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) on Friday, December 11 and vs. Randolph on Saturday, December 12. The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com will have the Wayne High girls and boys hosting Wahoo Friday night with the boys game being played first.
The LCC girls are 0-2 following road losses to Crofton (69-28) last Thursday and at Homer (60-54) on Tuesday while the boys team sits 2-0 with wins over those same opponents (72-41/47-32).
The Tri County Northeast girls are 1-0 following a 56-14 road win at Cedar Bluffs on Monday while the Wolfpack boys are 1-1 following a road loss to Bloomfield (35-32) last Friday and road win at Cedar Bluffs (63-12) Monday.
The Lady Cardinals are 1-1 following a road win at Osmond (43-36) last Friday and home loss to Ponca (55-20) while the Randolph boys lost to Osmond (68-28) and Ponca (66-44) Thursday night and are 0-2 entering Friday.
Last season, the Lady Bears won at Emerson-Hubbard (57-14) and suffered a home loss to the co-op team of Wakefield-Allen (64-46). LCC also won at Randolph (57-15) last year
From the boys games, LCC won at both Emerson-Hubbard (71-21) and Randolph (60-50) but didn’t face Allen last year.
Moving into the Wayne vs. Wahoo doubleheader, the Blue Devil girls are 1-2 following a 59-45 road loss to Wakefield earlier this week. The Wayne boys secured their third straight win after edging the Trojans 48-44 Tuesday night.
The Wahoo girls are 2-1 with wins vs. Aurora (53-36) and at Ashland-Greenwood (50-35) following a season-opening road loss to Bennington (61-36). The Warrior boys are 2-1 as they fell at Bennington (71-64) but won vs. Aurora (59-36) as the team also won at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 66-58 in overtime Thursday night.
Last year, the Blue Devil girls defeated Wahoo (47-44) while the Wayne High boys suffered a 66-59 loss to the Warriors. Both Wahoo teams (C1 – girls/B – boys) suffered first round state tournament losses last year.
