PONCA – Following a season-opening home loss to start the weekend, the Wayne High girls and boys basketball teams hit to the road for their first of three straight in seven days.
The Blue Devils visited Ponca Saturday night.
In the girls game, Ponca took control from the start with a 16-6 first and 17-9 second. At the break, Ponca held a 33-12 lead. The Indians added 10-8 and 12-9 second half scoring to win 55-32. Ponca improves to 2-0 while the Blue Devils fell to 0-2.
Frankie Klausen posted a team-high 15 points in scoring followed by Brooklyn Kruse with six points for Wayne High.
From the boys game, Ponca took the early 19-13 first quarter lead while Ponca added an 11-10 second quarter. The Indians extended their 30-24 lead with a 17-6 third quarter as both teams scored 11 points in the fourth. Final saw Ponca defeat Wayne High 58-40 to improve to 2-0 while WHS fell to 0-2.
Tyrus Eischeid paced WHS in scoring with 12 points and 12 rebounds followed by Shea Sweetland with eight points.
Ponca was led in scoring by Carter Kingsbury with 21 points and Cayden Phillips tallied 13 points. Paul Masin added a team-high nine rebounds.
The Wayne High girls and boys will next visit Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Tuesday, December 10 at 6/7:30 p.m. The game will be carried on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com with pregame coverage set for 5:45 p.m.
