WAYNE – With a pair of road outings on the schedule next week, the Wayne High baseball team took part in a Friday night doubleheader.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, WHS welcomed in Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran.
After giving up the go-ahead run in a one-run loss of 5-4 in game one, the Wayne High Blue Devils fell behind in game two against Wahoo and lost 10-3. Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran improved to 3-3 while WHS fell to 1-2.
Wayne High led early in the opening game with single runs in the first and third innings. After Wahoo scored a run in the top of sixth, WHS answered with two more runs in the home half of the inning to lead 4-1. The visiting team then poured in four runs in the top of the seventh and held on to win 5-4.
Reid Korth singled twice, drove in a run and scored to lead Wayne High at the plate. Jacob Kneifl tacked on a single and two runs scored while James Dorcey also produced a single. Max Miller accounted for a RBI and Wyatt Heikes scored.
Jaxon Mrsny suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing five runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out one batter and walking three. Jacob Kneifl worked the opening five innings of scoreless ball allowing three hits and striking out seven batters. Kaleb Moormeier recorded the final out.

During the night cap it was Wahoo scoring early and often with three runs in the first and two more in the second inning. After two scoreless innings, Wahoo added three more runs in the fifth to lead 8-0. Wayne High started their comeback in the sixth with two runs compared to Wahoo’s one but both teams scored one run in the seventh. Final of game two favored Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran, 10-3.
Wayne High’s Brooks Kneifl doubled and scored twice while Max Miller and Mrsny both singled twice and drove in a run. Victor Kniesche singled and scored as James Dorcey also singled.
Kniesche suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing five runs (four earned) off two hits while walking four batters. Moormeier provided two and two-third of relief allowing two runs while striking out one batter and walking four as Dorcey closed out the final two and two-thirds allowing three earned runs off of five hits while striking out three batters and walking two.

The Wayne High baseball team will next visit Douglas County West on Tuesday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Crete on Thursday, April 1 at 4:30 p.m.
