Blue Devil Baseball To Visit Thurston-Cuming County, Game Carried On KTCH

WAYNE – After scoring seven of their eight runs in the final inning of a 10-8 home loss to Blair this past weekend, the Wayne High baseball team will return to the diamond for a road outing with a northeast Nebraska opponent.

The Blue Devils are 4-4 and will visit Thurston-Cuming County on Tuesday, April 13. Varsity first pitching is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with JV to follow. The TC Thunder baseball team, made up from towns of Emerson-Hubbard, Lyons-Decatur, Bancroft-Rosalie, and Pender are 2-5 on the season.

WHS won 10-3 at Hank Overin Field in Wayne to open the season 1-0 with a victory over Thurston-Cuming County on March 25. Wayne High recently lost 10-8 to Blair on Saturday, April 10 after having their home game with Arlington canceled due to weather. The Blue Devils are 3-2 their past five games.

WHS has won eight straight over the TC Thunder and are 14-1 since 2013 against the Emerson-Hubbard/Lyons-Decatur/Bancroft-Rosalie/Pender co-op team. The Thunder’s lone win in the series came on April 12, 2016 (4-3 in Wayne).

For Thurston-Cuming County, the team recently defeated St. Paul/Palmer, 14-8 after having an April 9 road game at Platte Valley postponed. The Thunder have won back-to-back and previously snapped a five-game losing streak with a 13-7 win vs. Omaha North on April 1.

Saturday’s baseball game with Central City has been moved to this Thursday, April 15 at 5:00 p.m. The game will now be a varsity only game that evening.
