HASTINGS – Post season high school baseball begins across the state for Class B today and Class A tomorrow.
From Duncan Field in Hastings, the Wayne High baseball team will be looking for their first postseason victory since 2013 (0-6 in games) which came against their opponent who they’ll be facing tonight.
WHS earned the #3 seed with their 11-7 record and will face #6 Douglas County West (2-16) at 5 p.m. this evening. Wayne High won their only game played in May which was a 6-1 home victory over Platte Valley on May 1 while the Falcons have lost five straight including going 0-3 in the month of May. DC West recently lost at Nebraska City, 7-5 on Monday.

Wayne High is 3-1 against DC West since 2011 which included a 3-2 win in nine innings during the 2013 district opening game along with a 15-7 win two years prior also in the postseason.
Opening the B-1 District this afternoon in Hastings will feature the play-in game between #4 Concordia/Brownell Talbot/Omaha Christian Academy (10-10) and #5 Fort Calhoun (7-10) at noon with the winner to face #1 Hastings (18-5) at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The winner of the Wayne/DC West game would face the winner of either #2 Plattsmouth (13-7) or #7 Auburn (1-14) who play at 2:30 p.m. today. The second semifinal game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday.
