Blue Devil Baseball Suffers One-Run Home Loss

WAYNE – Runs came at a premium in a one-run ball game for the Wayne High baseball team to open the week.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the Blue Devils competed in their first of two regular season meetings with GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer on Monday.

Following three scoreless innings, GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fourth and held on for the 1-0 victory. GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer improved to 2-2 winning back-to-back while WHS saw a two-game winning streak snapped to now sit 3-3.

Victor Kniesche recorded the lone single while Jacob Kneifl walked twice as the only players to reach base. Wayne High had 13 strikeouts as a team at the plate.

Brooks Kneifl suffered the loss in five innings allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. Kaleb Moormeier worked the final two innings striking out one batter.

WHS will visit GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer on Tuesday, April 27.

The Wayne High baseball team will next visit South Sioux City on Tuesday, April 6 with the varsity game starting at 4:30 p.m. followed by the JV game around 6:30 p.m. WHS will also host both Arlington (April 8) and Blair (April 10) this week.
