Blue Devil Baseball Only Needed Three Hits To Secure Road Victory

ARLINGTON – After competing with the weather during indoor and outdoor practices and even getting a triangular cancelled over the weekend, the Wayne High baseball team began their season on the road Monday.

From Arlington, the Blue Devils visited the Eagles for the first of two scheduled meetings. The other game is scheduled for Monday, April 30 which as it stands is the regular season finale at Hank Overin Field in Wayne.

WHS opened the scoring with a run in the first before allowing two runs in the third to trail, 2-1. Following a scoreless fourth, Wayne High brought in two runs of their own before defense took over to hold on for the 3-2 victory. Wayne begins their season at 1-0 while Arlington falls to 0-1.

Three different Blue Devils accounted for a hit each with Zane Jackson leading the way with a solo home run while Trevor DeBoer doubled. Kaleb Anderson added a single and RBI as Jacob Kneifl also brought in a run. Reid Korth and Victor Kniesche each accounted for a run scored.

As a team Wayne High did strikeout 13 times.

On the mound, Kneifl started and worked three innings allowing two runs off of three hilts while striking out two batters and walking three. DeBoer worked the final four innings and picked up the victory allowing one hit while striking out and walking two batters each.

In the Junior Varsity contest, Arlington held off Wayne High 9-7.

Today’s scheduled home opener for Wayne High with Fort Calhoun has been postponed to a later date. WHS will be on the road for two more games visiting Pender on Thursday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. and at Wahoo on Friday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Arlington will next visit Bennington on Thursday, March 22.

The first home game from Hank Overin Field will take place on Tuesday, March 27 with Douglas County West coming to town at 4:30 p.m.
