LAUREL – Two days after hosting their second and final invite of the year, the Wayne High girls golf team took to the road for a weekend invitational.
From Cedar View Country Club in Laurel, the Bears welcomed in six varsity programs and two JV teams.
The host, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won their home invite with a 376 outlasting Battle Creek who followed in second with a 406. West Holt finished third with a 456, LCC JV placed fourth with a 521 just ahead of Crofton’s 522 in fifth. Wayne, Elkhorn Valley and Battle Creek JV also had individual golfers.
Wayne’s Natalie Bentjen shot the low 18-hole score with an 85 as the next five of six positions were filled by LCC golfers. Jadyn Kinkaid placed runner-up with an 87 while Sarah Karnes (93), Sidney Groene (98), Hope Swanson (98) and Delaney Hall (98) all finished fourth – seventh. Battle Creek’s Megan Lutt shot an 89 to place third.
Riley Haschke shot a 104 to finish 10th as Trinity Surber shot a personal best of 142.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next compete in the Mid State Conference invite on Thursday hosted by Battle Creek and districts will be in Blair on October 5.
