Battle Creek Wins C-3 Girls Golf District Meet, Wayne High Places 10th

NORFOLK – The Wayne High girls golf team saw their season come to an end during the C-3 District meet Monday.

From Fair Play Golf Course in Norfolk, the host Battle Creek won the district outing with a 397, Norfolk Catholic took second with a 401 and Hartington Cedar Catholic finished as the third qualifying team for state with a 414.

Pierce’s Sydney Erickson shot the 18-hole low with an 86 to be the top golfer and one of the additional qualifiers. Other individuals qualifying for state included Lydia Stenka (West Holt) placing second with a 91; Jazzmin Nolze (TC) and Emma Beutler (TC) both shot a 97 to finish fifth and sixth respectively as Alexandria Jensen (O’Neill) finished eighth with a 99.

West Holt shot a 432 to place fourth, Thurston-Cuming (fifth – 459), O’Neill (sixth – 459), Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (seventh – 468), Pierce (eighth – 475), Ainsworth (ninth – 534), Wayne High (10th – 556) and Elkhorn Valley (11th – 560) as Crofton and Stanton also had golfer compete.

The top LCC golfer was Sarah Karnes placing 19th with a 109 while Wayne High was led by Natalie Bentjen with a 113 finishing 22nd.

Other Laurel-Concord-Coleridge golfers were Jadyn Kinkain (116), Glenda Vance (121), Sidney Groene (123) and Hope Swanson (129). Other WHS golfers included Riley Haschke (129), Bailee Leise (134) and Jayden Calhoon (180).

The top three teams and top 10 individuals and ties qualified for state at North Platte on Monday and Tuesday, October 13-14. Class A teams will compete at the Norfolk Country Club; Class B from the Elks Country Club in Columbus and Class C from Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte. Opening tee times will start at 9 a.m. each morning.
