Balanced Scoring Leads To WSC Men’s Victory In Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Four double figure scorers allowed the Wayne State College men’s basketball team to start off the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament with a win.

From the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, WSC competed against Tampa Friday evening.

The Wildcats built a 34-22 first half lead before Tampa kept the second half close with a 41-38 advantage. Final favored Wayne State College over Tampa, 72-63. WSC is now 5-1 on the season while Tampa fell to 1-3.

Fifth-year senior Nate Mohr (6-13 FG/5-10 3PT) posted a team-high 17 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals and was also joined by sophomore Justin Eagins (6-10 FG/4-6 3PT/1-2 FT) with 17 points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal. Fifth-year senior Jordan Janssen (5-13 FG) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds along with five assists and a steal as sophomore Jay Saunders (4-7 FG/2-3 FT) closed with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Other scoring came from freshman David Harmon (one assist/two steals) with seven points; fifth-year senior Nick Ferrarini (four rebounds/two assists) with five points as sophomores Cody McCullough (two rebounds/two assists) and Noah Erickson (four rebounds/one assist) both had three points.

Wayne State College shot 27-62 (43.5%) from the floor, 13-26 (50%) at the three-point line and 5-7 (71.4%) from the foul line.

 

Tampa leaders were Jonathan Bryant II (7-10 FG/4-6 3PT/1-2 FT) with 19 points and three rebounds; Mykah Brown (5-10 FG/1-2 3PT/2-2 FT) with 13 points, three rebounds and a steal as De’Andre Harvey (4-6 FG/0-1 3PT/4-4 FT) had 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Tampa finished 23-52 (44.2%) from the field, 6-14 (42.9%) from behind the arc and 11-14 (78.6%) from the charity stripe.

The Wayne State College men will close out the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament in St. Petersburg, FL Saturday evening at 6 p.m. CT against Eckerd College.
