WAYNE – Earlier this week Tyler Thomsen of the Wayne State College football team was recognized by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
According to a release Tuesday morning, junior linebacker Tyler Thomsen was named to the 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Third Team on defense.
This marks the second consecutive season that a Wildcat player received Don Hansen All-America honors following safety Glenn Harris being listed Second Team a year ago.
Thomsen, from Fremont (Archbishop Bergan HS), was a First Team All-NSIC South Division selection this season after leading Wayne State and the Northern Sun Conference in tackles with 120, averaging 10.9 tackles per game. He recorded 10 or more tackles in eight games this season, highlighted by a season-best 15 stops with one interception for 49 yards in a 42-35 win at Upper Iowa. Thomsen also had two blocked kicks with 5.5 tackles for loss (11 yds.) and one sack (2 yds.) this season. Thomsen was All-NSIC South Division honorable mention last season as a sophomore.
Other post-season accolades for Thomsen this season include Don Hansen All-Super Region 4 First Team and D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Second Team honors.
The Wayne State College football team closed out their 2018 season with records of 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the NSIC South Division.
