WAYNE – It’s championship Tuesday for Junior American Legion baseball programs and several teams are vying for a trip to state.
In Wayne from Hank Overin Field, #1 Wayne Post 43 is 23-0 and will face Albion for the second time in the B5 Area Tournament also being the third time this season.
Earlier this year, Post 43 Juniors won a non-conference home game over Albion of 10-0 on June 3 while also defeating Albion 5-1 this past Sunday.
Wayne Post 43 has picked up victories of 6-0 over #6 Tekamah-Herman on Friday; 6-2 over #3 Pierce on Saturday and 5-1 win on Sunday against #4 Albion.
#4 Albion began the tournament with a 4-1 win over #3 Pierce and also got by #2 West Point (4-3) on Saturday before falling to Post 43 (5-1) on Sunday. Monday’s elimination game favored Albion over West Point of 10-0 in five innings after Albion put up seven runs in the fourth inning.
Wayne is 3-0 in the tournament and just needs one win to advance to the Class B Junior American Legion state tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 16 – Wednesday, July 20. Albion is 3-1 and needs to win twice to move onto the state tourney.

The Area 5 champion would face the Area 2 champion in game one of the state tournament in Wahoo. #1 Plattsmouth will face #4 Springfield at 5:30 p.m. with Plattsmouth just needing to win once in the Area 2 tournament.
In Wakefield from Eaton Field, #2 Wakefield Post 81 picked up a 14-1 victory (correction from morning sports/sports gram) over #5 Crofton in an elimination game on Monday during the C1 Area tournament. Post 81 scored 12 of their runs in the fourth inning and avenged their 1-0 Friday night loss to Crofton.
Post 81 has now fought off three straight elimination games of 7-6 in eight innings over #6 Atkinson on Saturday; 12-6 win over #3 Hartington on Sunday and again the 14-1 victory against #5 Crofton on Monday.
#1 Creighton-Plainview is undefeated in the C1 Area Tournament and is the host for the Class C Junior American Legion State Tourney. With Creighton already getting the automatic qualifying spot as the host, Wakefield Post 81 will represent Area 1 in the state tournament with a win or loss.
This evening’s Class C Area 1 Final is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Eaton Field in Wakefield. Creighton would need just one win to become champion while Wakefield must win twice to finish a top of their bracket (already qualified for state).
The Class C Junior Legion State Tournament will be played in Creighton from Saturday, July 16 – Wednesday, July 20. The Area 1 representative is scheduled to face the Area 3 champion during game three of the tournament. #1 Malcolm will face #3 EMN in the Area 3 Final slated for 6 p.m. tonight with Malcolm needing to win just once.
Also, the C2 Area Junior Legion Tournament hosted by Hooper-Scribner will showcase #1 Pender vs. #5 Louisville/Weeping Water at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the championship game. Pender needs to win just once to advance to state. The Area 2 champion would play the Area 5 champion in game one of the state tournament in Creighton.
